Based on the trailer (which unsurprisingly looks stunning) it appears that fans will be well rewarded for their patience after the long and arduous wait since Season 3 of the hit show was released back in July of 2019 (where does the time go?).

‘Season 4’ has a greater scope than the previous seasons, and that’s apparent from the trailer below. The show’s creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer have also said as much.

Due to its longer episodes, this season will also be split into two “volumes”. Volume 1 becomes available on Netflix on May 27th and Volume 2 will arrive shortly after on July 1st.

It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.

With the adrenaline-inducing tones of Journey’s “Separate Ways” filling our ears, we get a better look at Hopper (David Harbour), imprisoned in Russia and fighting for his life, Joyce (Winona Ryder), receiving a mysterious package from an undisclosed location, and Steve (Joe Keery), Robin (Maya Hawke), and Nancy (Natalia Dyer), wondering what more they can discover in the yet unexplored parts of Hawkins.

The new trailer also teases an absolute bonkers battle against The Upside Down.

Upon arriving in California, Dr. Owens (Paul Reiser) informs Eleven (Mille Bobby Brown) that a war to end all wars is coming, and he does not believe they have a chance of winning it without her. Eleven, though, reveals that her powers have still not returned after being lost at the end of Season 3.

Stranger Things first three seasons explored the world outside of Hawkins, Indiana but S4 is looking to turn things up a notch.

The show’s fourth season will split the unfolding story amongst a variety of disparate, major locations. While Stranger Things’ season four trailer suggests that a significant part of its narrative will unfold in California, where Joyce and the Byers family have moved. In addition, the story will presumably return to the Upside Down and catch up with Jim Hopper in Russia as well.

Stranger Things Season 4 looks to be the most exciting and heart-racing installment yet, with significant flashbacks to Eleven’s past (which appear to have been filmed during Mille Bobby Brown’s “bald” phase showing some great foresight by the Duffer brothers), the emergence of what seriously appear to be Demobats, and almost everyone taking a trip to The Upside Down.

Our heroes face trouble not just in Hawkins, but around the world, as the trailer teases new threats around every corner. In addition, we catch a look at Season 4’s final boss. This trailer is one not to be missed just like Season 4 itself its littered with great 80’s pop culture references, a banging soundtrack, and plenty of little easter eggs that will have fans souring the trailer shot-by-shot in order to catch everything.

Volume 1 of Stranger Things Season 4 returns to Netflix on May 27. Volume 2 of the series will be available on July 1 of this summer.
