Months after returning to the spotlight for his first gig in years, Peter Kay has joined Instagram

The awesome Peter Kay is back, and now he’s on Instagram!

While the comedian has been out of the spotlight for a long time, he appears to be making a conscious attempt to ease himself back into public life by increasing his social media presence.

Peter used the new account to promote upcoming charity performances to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Peter Kay captioned a promotional image for his Dance For Life shows: “Extra tickets released for Peter Kay’s Dance for Life in Manchester and Liverpool.”

London’s Alexandra Palace is sold out for his April 29 performance, but there are still seats available for his shows at Manchester Central on Good Friday (April 15) and April 16, as well as at the Liverpool Space by M&S Bank Arena on August 19 and 20.

Although Peter has only shared two posts so far – the other an image of himself – he has already racked up over a thousand followers within two hours of joining the social network.

Since a few years ago, the comic has largely disappeared from the spotlight.

“Unforeseen family circumstances” caused him to cancel his December 2017 tour, though he returned briefly the following year during a charity screening of his series Car Share.

He was also interviewed by Cat Deeley on BBC Radio 2 in January last year.

Peter returned to the stage for the first time in three years in August last year, receiving a standing ovation.

While staging two charity Q&A sessions at the O2 Apollo in Manchester, he entertained a delighted crowd. “I haven’t ever received a standing ovation when I came on before. I’m going away for four more years.” he joked to the crowd.

Peter announced a month after the gig he would write an autobiography to look back on his career.

During the recording of his best-selling autobiography The Sound Of Laughter, which came out 15 years ago, he was inspired to write a new book.

“Within the first few chapters, I was inspired to write a third book,” he told his fans.

“I had this idea about 10 years ago. It was all about working in TV from when I was doing bit parts in Coronation Street all the way to Car Share.”

“It’s been a real joy recalling the memories. There are over 20 years of stories about filming series like Phoenix Nights and Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere.”

He continued: “Appearing on chat shows like Parkinson, at the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and sharing letters from Ronnie Barker. We wrote to each other for years as pen pals until he passed away.

“I’m very proud of it. I’ll no doubt be recording that book too before you know it. I just hope people enjoy it as much as this first one.”
