A statement from former UFC and WWE star Cain Velasquez after he was charged with attempted murder

Cain Velasquez, the former UFC icon and heavyweight champion, and short-lived WWE superstar was recently charged with 1st degree attempted murder after a shooting in San Jose California.

Documents filed by the San Diego County district attorney’s office state Velasquez is facing charges including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting an occupied vehicle, and more. Velasquez posted a statement to Twitter today about the charges, what transpired, and the support he’s received from his fans. Below is the full statement.

“To everyone that has expressed your support, my family and I will never be able to thank you enough. From the bottom of our hearts and the depths of our souls, we are forever grateful for your love. Your selfless gestures and kind words have given me strength in my darkest times.
This story is complex and slowly unraveling as we speak. To the true victims of this case, may God give you the strength to come forward. Though it is most difficult to relive the pain that has happened to you, in speaking the truth, justice will be served and your own true healing will start. I will never stop helping or loving my community and all of you. Thank you for giving me love – Cain Velasquez”

It was Harry Goularte who was listed as the person Velasquez allegedly attacked. The UFC star’s “close relative” was allegedly molested by him on February 28th, according to charges. According to the authors, Velasquez left after police arrived on the scene, and later he was taken into custody further down the road. According to police documents, he had a semi-automatic handgun on him when he was arrested.
